Bangkok with the sister, 5 to 9 December 2013

5 December: After the morning of packing my luggage last-minute, I took the kids out on a train ride from home to the airport. It was a long and interesting ride.
The sister and I - the very start of our shopping on the trip - at DFS.
From the time we shopped, and had a cuppa tea & cake; to the time we boarded, we had a very harrowing experience (first of the trip). We very, nearly, missed our flight. In short, we messed up our gate numbers and we had 3 minutes to run from one end of the airport (F36) to the other (E2) where our gate was. It was, very terribly frightening! I cannot even begin to tell you how frantic we were and how grateful I was that we were able-bodied to be able to run! And it was quite a sight really, that we were flapping loudly in our slippers, dashing amidst relaxed shoppers (who were us moments before we discovered our error).

The point is, we made our flight (THANK GOODNESS) and we were off on our holidays!

No one was hurt in the process of making the flight. Except the sister's battle scars as seen here, and Patrick the Starfish who was lost so no pic of him.
Upon landing, we settled the errand of getting a SIM card, and took the train to Phaya Thai which - according to some lady - was 10minutes from our hotel. It was dark by the time we arrived at our stop and we ended up trekking at least 20 minutes to our destination. It was slightly un-nerving because the soi (street) was dark and long and we had some moments of uncertainty if we were on the right track. Thank goodness for lit-up sign ages because that was how we identified that we were not lost and truly, after lugging our luggage and stomping about for that long, it felt good to know that we had arrived. PHEW.

Dinner on the first night: catch-up with old-time friend.
The first night ended on a nice buzz, with Thai food in our tummies, relief from being in Bangkok, and some beer never hurt anyone.

6 December: a nice healthy start to our day with us hitting the gym.
No pictures at all for the rest of the day because we were so busy shopping! It was frentic and amazingly fun, and exhausting. According to the sister, I went abit mad but I think I did some good buys for everyone!

So after all that shopping, we rewarded ourselves with a much-needed foot massage. I can still remember how good it felt! #needonenow
Dinner was a scrummilicious meal of fish, chicken, papaya salad (not pictured) & coconut juice. So good!
A fun end to our first full day in Bangkok. 4 towers of Chang beer for only S$18/tower!

7 December: a good start to the day with a full body massage. Made better with my virgin visit to this famous food stall. Wanton mee and melt-in-your-mouth pork with rice. Soooo gooooood.
Burning under the hot sun at Chatuchak
We took a break from walking and shopping.
End of day shopping - all shopped out.

The evening ended in quite an exciting manner with us meeting some friends & having dinner together.

The sister and I then risked our lives to do a manicure and pedicure. Worst investment ever on this trip.

8 December: Started the day with a visit again to this stall! This was one epic meal where we had street-side chicken wings and crepes #yummy
After (more - surprise!) shopping, we ventured beyond a mall (gasp) and trekked to a nearby street (we nearly got lost & stenched up by passers-by, then nearly fainted from a find of a less-than-desirable cafe) and found a really decent cafe called Kuppa. I was surprised by how good the lemon curd cheesecake was! #bestcake

We ended off the day with (again - more) shopping and a comfortable meal in the comforts of an air-conditioned restaurant. No pics for the night, but I remember us doing a lot of walking from one mall to another back to one mall again... but we did treat ourselves to a foot massage - bliss.

9 December: this was our last day in Bangkok and we were quite focussed to complete our errands and not miss our flight. The highlight of the morning was us chancing upon the protests that are taking place during this unsettling period for the Thais.

I love this shot of us. It's a nice summary of our holiday together - it was nice to spend time together, to laugh together, to have silly moments together and add more memories to the #sisterlove memory bank. It's also a suitable picture that encapsulates us #crazyfun
