Day 10: Goodbye SF. Hello Lake Tahoe!

This was the day we bade farewell to San Francisco. Again, basking in the familiarity of home, we had the same breakfast as yesterday. Aaahh, such creatures of comfort and routine (my children can eat the same bread + nutella combo for 4 out of 5 - if not 5 out of 5 - weekdays!)

It was then time to say goodbye to our lovely hosts for the last few days. The comfort of our pseudo-home, the place where the husband did not have to drive like a manic, the place to do laundry, the home that our children could recuperate from the holiday bug - we were so thankful. I'm so blessed to have a girlfriend who - despite the long distance, still regards the friendship as much as I do - and I cannot wait for the day to host them in Singapore.

The last thing to do, before we continued on the road, was to do the must-do visit to the Golden Gate Bridge. The weather was lovely and sunny, the kids were in agreeable moods, and it made the visit so tourist-like and happy to accomplish.

Just because, I love you two to bits and more
This little girl even had the mood to play balance beam

This was the perfect spot for us to stretch our legs and bask in the daylight... as we continued our roadtrip in our trusty vehicle and did a couple of pee-stops, and continued pigging out from the mobile pantry that we had. We did a Maccas stop - hello bad junk fast food.

By the time we hit Lake Tahoe, our next destination, it was late afternoon - and the sky was getting dark. We noticed the weather change even within the vehicle. The winds were chilly and the skies turned dark very quickly. It took us a while to cruise through the windy roads and we sighted snow - there were cars who parked on the sides just to play with snow and we contemplated doing that, but making the decision to "let's go to the next one" that alas, did not happen. We had arrived at Base Camp Lodge.

It was Superbowl night- one that while we were not particularly keen on, was fun to be immersed in enthusiasts who were truly passionate about the game. We gathered around the lodge lobby and sat with other lodgers who were game on.

More than happy to bum on the comfy sofa
Moment of peace with the most hated-loved-babysitter of all time

It was dark, our tummies grumbled, and while I was happy to just continue nibbling through our pantry, the husband made the decision to head out to eat proper. And so our first experience with cold.

All bundled up, yet our noses were sniffly and we needed to bounce about on the spot to keep the cold at bay
How cute do they look!

Using Yelp, the husband located a good restaurant - Kalani's - at the Heavenly Village and in we went. Like, we literally made a run for it the moment we got out of the car - not before we checked the map for its exact location. It was cold - did I say that already?

We hadn't forecasted the cold and the time, and by the time we placed our orders at the restaurant, it was hangry time for the kids. So we were very happy when they started serving the food.

Happy diners

Dinner was pleasant and the food was of good quality. We enjoyed ourselves... and while it was quite pricey, the experience was a nice start to our stay at Lake Tahoe. After a very full dinner, we headed back to the lodge and this was when we understood the need for this lovely, lovely bonfire

Warmed on the outside by the fire, warm on the inside with these loves of my lives

We explored the lodge a bit, checking out the outdoor jacuzzi (heated, and people were actually inside in swim gear!), and got comfortable very quickly in our room.

That night, the kids dozed off watching bad cartoon on TV. It was a nice end to the day on the roads and I remember sleeping very well in the cosy room with a very comfortable bed.

Check out Day 9 here.
