What it is about

We picked up this flyer at the supermarket one time and I thought it'd be nice to introduce the concept of giving to the children. So I told them to empty their piggy banks and buy some food for the needy.

They had such innocent questions like "are these police?" / "they have no money? they are very hungry?" / "how they help" / "why must put in box"?

I tried my best to answer their questions and explain myself clearly, to teach them that there are less unfortunate people and they are doing good by doing this donation. To remind them that they are fortunate and to pass on love and to be kind.

I hope we continue doing this with them year on year.

So thankful for friends and family who are able to bring them out and about when I am at work. Hooray!

Jake at 33 months

He's had waffles before and he insists on having them again.  He peels off the lid on his own. 

He cuts up his waffles by himself.

I'm amazed that in a blink of an eye, he is fully operating in his capacity as a little person. He is so adorable and vocal, knowing what he wants and not. His vocabulary is also highly impressive for a non-3-yo. He is into trains, cars, superheroes. He claims his title as "Superman" or "Batman" or "Ironman" depending on what he is wearing. He loves his food and milk, and can be such a charmer. He is generous to share and loves to play football and basketball.

Not too long to go before he goes to pre-nursery. My little baby boy all grown up, almost.

I'm not able to take leave during the school holidays, and I feel a bit bad. So I'm so thankful that my Dad is such an awesome 爷爷 who helps bring them out - the zoo/ the park - to keep them occupied and entertained.

Kids Dash 2014

This year, the husband and I both did not run the Stanchart Marathon. No halves, no full, none. Soo... no better opportunity for us both to go again - and let the kids run. 

It was a hot and sunny day

It was pretty chaotic, no clear signs or ushers telling us where to go. We just headed to the start pen following the crowd flow. Both were meant to be in different categories, but we sneaked into the same start pen so that we could all be together.

And off we went! They were both pretty overwhelmed by the people and the crowds, I could tell. The crowd noise, the loud music and microphones were rather scary initially ... but once we went off it was fine.

The kids even managed to run! It was too adorable.

Then the fun ended at the end of this stretch of road. Because there were bottlenecks that made it impossible for us to run, which was a bummer.

What really mattered though, was that this was a fun family event! I loved how we exposed the kids to some healthy fun activity and both were thrilled with the run. 

Post their (kinda) hard work, we headed to the Kids Zone for them to have some fun.

We then taught J how to Q up and get his own fairy floss. How funny is the pic, how contrasting it is to see the little boy and a big man. He was stoked to get his own stick of treat!

I'm glad that we organised this for the kids and they had fun. To sum it up? This finale pic says it all.

Hi5 - still a hot favourite

Hi5 is the child-equivalent of those long-soap dramas like "Days of our lives" or some chinese-drama that crawls at the pace of a snail. The cast has changed several rounds over (since the time I knew of their existence), but until today I still think that it is highly enjoyable, educational and fun. I love watching their props - some so ingeniously created!

K's been a huge fan since she was little, and I paid good money to catch their live show last year. It's such a good experience that I knew I will bring not just one, but both kids to catch it if it came again. So we did. 

Fun times

Everyone had such a good time!

K, being more experienced in catching shows, was a gem. She danced and hopped about and got on with it with the crew on stage. At one point, she told me (mid-show) "Mommy, Taneika was looking at me!" I did not have the heart to tell her that's probably untrue, but I'm thrilled that she was so engaged.

J, on the other hand, was in a daze! I think he kinda got the concept that this was Hi-5 live, and he seemed a bit overwhelmed. He sat on my lap through the show but was involved with the hand-actions. I knew he was aware of what was going on, because he also responded to their questions.

"Do you like fishing?"
YESSS - yelled the crowed.... & J turns to me and goes "Mommy, I don't like fishing"

I love how simple things are to him and how earnest he was in responding to me with his true answer. I assured him that it's fine, it's ok that he didn't want to (there were two such questions that he responded quietly to me the negative) and I adore his cute self to bits.
